Although the main herring fishery off the North-West coast of Ireland now takes place from October to January or early February, considerable quantities of herring are also landed throughout the remainder of the year. This report is thus divided into two sections, one dealing with the period March to September, 1969 (the off season) and the other dealing with the period October, 1969 to February, 1970 (the main season).en_GB
